After a semester of school spent part fully online and part in hybrid, we needed a rest! To recover, we spent the week around Christmas on an island near Komodo National Park. A little snorkeling, some walking around, and a lot of reading on the beach.

Of course, no trip to Komodo park would be complete without a stroll around Komodo Island to meet the famous dragons. Mostly, we just had a walk through the forest. Komodos aren’t very active in the heat of the day, so we only saw one small one out in the forest, and three others around the cafe and shop area where tourists hang out. They are pretty impressive animals, though!
Another key activity was a lot of beach time. We had a nice place to sit and chill in front of our cabana, but also got to swim at the famous pink beaches.

We had the great luck to have an empty beach at our disposal – just the 6 of us who were staying at the resort and our guide were alone on the entire long, beautiful stretch. The pandemic has made it hard for lots of people in the tourist industry here, but we have really enjoyed all the beautiful empty spaces where we’ve traveled.

Overall, it was a fantastic week. We emerged rested and ready for the next part of our vacation – our Flores Island overland adventure!
