October Break in Puncak

Pine forest walk near Boja Farm

For our weeklong break this October we decided to explore Java a bit. We rented a car and drove down to Puncak, an area south of Bogor and somewhat near Mt. Salak. We first spent two days with a few friends at a rented villa. It was lovely to relax and hang out, and we did a little exploring.

Cooking homemade black bean burgers on the grill at the villa. Indonesian barbeques require fanning to keep them going, apparently.

After some difficulty on small, crowded roads, and a walk through what looked like an abandoned children’s park, we did find the national park Gunung Gede Pangrango. It was great to be outdoors in a little cooler weather!

Our next stop was Boja Farm, on the side of Mt. Salak volcano. Adam and I did two nights of glamping on this organic farm, enjoying beautiful views over the terraced hills and excellent food fresh from the gardens.

As part of our stay at the farm, we did a walk through a nearby pine forest, and we harvested veggies from the gardens on our farm tour. I’d forgotten that peanuts are legumes!

All told, it was a relaxing week with plenty of adventure and seeing new things. Adam did an awesome job driving in challenging conditions, and we got to explore this island we live on. How lucky we are!

Adam’s gluten-free birthday cake on the farm. The workers were so happy to sing for him and delighted with the trick candle that he couldn’t blow out!
